NFL free agency update: Steven Jackson to Falcons, Matt Cassel to Vikings & more

Steven-Jackson-to-Atlanta-Falcons

Steven Jackson is on the move. The former Rams running back standout has signed a three-year deal worth $12 million with the Atlanta Falcons. The deal guarantees him $4 million. Jackson felt it was time to move on from the Rams, were he spent his first nine years in the league, partially because changes in the offense meant Jackson wouldn’t be used as much. Clearly he feels he has a lot more to offer and could be just the upgrade the Falcons need. Jackson has rushed for 1000 yards for eight seasons. Plus, Jackson would have the opportunity to play in the post season again.

Other free agent moves:

  •  QB Matt Cassel to the Vikings for a one year deal worth a reported $4 million

  • 49ers WR Mario Manningham agreed to a pay cut to remain with the 49ers. His base salary has been reduced from $3.6 million to $1.8 million.

  • Seattle Seahawks have signed DE Michael Bennett to one-year deal worth $5 million

  •  Eagles sign former Texans OLB Connor Barwin.  Barwin will receive a six-year deal worth $36 million that could max out at $40 million with guarantees. $8 million of that is guaranteed.
