San Francisco 49ers’ corner back Chris Culliver made his way into the news this week with comments about locker room tolerance with a gay football player. Culliver later apologized for his remarks. When the Niners return to San Francisco, Culliver will have the chance to work with a LGBT group known as the Trevor Project.

The group works to help youth learn about suicide prevention among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.

“We really feel that education about LGBT youth and the challenges they face is a great way to get (Chris) started on the right path,” said Lauren McGinnis, communications director for The Trevor Project, “especially since he’s a role model.”
