Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton Says Teammates Need To “Get On His Level” [Video]

Carolina Panthers QB Cam newton recently sat down for an interview with ESPN the magazine. At one point, the conversation turns to the losing culture of the Panthers. Cam’s response, that he wants “everybody to get up on his level” has caused a bit of controversy.

I have no problem with him saying that. People can and do get stuck in a rut. Sometimes a fresh perspective is what’s needed to turn things around. He’s driven AND he’s proving it where it counts most, on the field. Last season the Panthers had two wins, so far they have 4 wins. In his first two games, he threw for over 400 yards setting a record. What’s wrong with wanting his teammates to raise their game. That’s what winners do!

  • CAM IS A VERY GOOD QB NOW AND COULD BECOME A GREAT QB,but,HE NEEDS TO HELP INSPIRE OTHERS NOT EXPECT EVERYONE ELSE TO MATCH HIS PLAY.PLAYERS CAN STEPUP THEIR GAME BUT THEY CAN’T BE WHAT THEIR NOT.STOP TELLING EVERYONE HOW GREAT YOU ARE AND START HELPING OTHERS TO PLAY BETTER OR YOU MAY BE JUST ANOTHER GOOD QB WITHOUT A RING.

“Sometimes a fresh perspective is what’s needed to turn things around.”

What perspective? The one where the rookie with a losing record congratulates himself? Leaders of men inspire others to better themselves through catalyzation of introspection and authenticity. Cam Newton has no credibility capital. Grown men do not like to be told what to do, especially by an arrogant, multi-millionaire man-child. True leadership and authenticity are the two clear differences between Tebow and Cam. Cam is insanely physically talented, but he his not a leader of men.

If you listened to the complete interview, Cam also mentioned things about practice and how you prepare yourself for games etc. Seemed to be implying that there is a lack of work ethic behind the scenes as well.

So while I understand your point, I’m going to say that the statement precludes something deeper than simply his arrogance.

    Bitch please

  • Jill

sooooo I’m just going to assume you’re referring to Cam as such, yes?

  • Cam is a great Q B – arrogant , only if he can not produce. Nothing wrong
with his upbeat -we can win if we try attitude.Look at the Panthers- no back to back winning seasons- bad road record over several years, coaching
and manageral questions. A were going to blow this game too attitude from
the fans as well as some of the team.
If a upbeat – we CAN win if we TRY person is what arrogance is from Cam
    _ _ _ bring on five more like him _ _ _
Poor attitude people hate Winner type people , NUF SAID /

Thid dude is a good ME!! person, But no positive leader!! iIf your teamates don”t have the desire to plAY FOR YOU?, It’s because they don’t respect you.. The Broncos on both sises of the ball are playing for Tim Tebow.. Maybe cam is a good player, but not a good prople person? That much is so important in having people follow you!1 Downing people who may not have your drive wont get you nowhere but sacked!! Does anyone remember the movie Any Given Sunday? Willie Beamen/Cam Newton….

“So while I understand your point, I’m going to say that the statement precludes something deeper than simply his arrogance.”

Your inference that his statement “precludes” something “deeper” is certainly your right, but shortsighted in my opinion. I watched the interview; your general reference of “Cam also mentioned things about practice and how you prepare yourself for games etc.” is irrelevant. His fatuous statement was still made; further statements do not negate tangible ignorance and irrefutable arrogance. Unlike Lebron, I’m certain Cam will get it, but probably not for a few years of losing in the same manner he is now.

  • Hoang

Cam is right and he’s not being arrogant. The guy goes all-out every game and his teammates are not little kids. They are grown men that get paid a lot of money to win. If they can’t realize themselves that they need to step up, then its probably time to get a whole new set of teammates around Cam that are willing to go hard.

  • Jill

Exactly. His teammate Steve Smith said he didn’t have a problem with the statements

  • donna I

Cam is a great athlete, but he does not lift his team up to make them better. That is what a leader is. He may be a better player than Tebow, but he will never be a better man.

  • Adam

“Exactly. His teammate Steve Smith said he didn’t have a problem with the statements”

LOL, yeah, a ringing endorsement from the consummate team player, mature adult and winner that is Steve Smith. Thanks to your subsequent comments (and, moreover, the events of this Sunday) my point was further solidified.

He’s on his way to being Kordel. Sad that he’s already Lebron-ing himself…maybe they’d win more games if 17 of his interceptions hadn’t come back for touchdowns…he throws more picks than anybody in the NFL, and people have the audacity to say he’s gonna’ win a Superbowl, maybe they should let him get double disgit wins first…just sayin’…you mad bro?
