Jill ESPN’s 30 for 30 series is one of my favorites. AI was the reason why I started watching college basketball. I even had a Georgetown starter jacket (look it was a quick moment in time and I was still fashionable with it). Allen has an incredible LIFE story, the documentary will focus on 1 aspect; his 1993 arrest stemming from a racially motivated fight at a local bowling alley and the trial that followed. All this happened while he was still in High school. Directed by Hampton native Steve James (who also happens to be the man behind the classic Basketball documentary Hoop Dreams), The Trial of Allen Iverson premiers April 13th on ESPN.
“On Valentine’s Day 1993, 17-year-old Bethel High School basketball star Allen Iverson was bowling in Hampton, Va., with five high school friends. It was supposed to be an ordinary evening, but it became a night that defined Iverson’s young life. A quarrel soon erupted into a brawl pitting Iverson’s young black friends against a group of white patrons. The fallout from the fight and the handling of the subsequent trial landed the teenager—considered by some the nation’s best high school athlete—in jail and sharply divided the city along racial lines. Oscar nominee Steve James (“Hoop Dreams”) returns to his hometown of Hampton, where he once played basketball, to take a personal look at this still-disputed incident and examine its impact on Iverson and the shared community. ”

Jill This week a Biography on NBA great Jerry West titled Jerry West: The Life and Legend of a Basketball Icon was released. While Mr. West is obviously the focus, one of the more interesting passages in the book comes in the final chapter and concerns “Mr. Showtime” himself, Magic Johnson:
“That November, as a new season was set to open, Magic Johnson announced to the world that he was HIV positive, a stunning event that brought revelations about the climate of sexual frivolity around the Lakers. Johnson admitted he had been sleeping with 300-500 people a year. The team’s locker room, and its sauna, had been a place where the star and other players had entertained women, even right after games. Johnson would retire to the sauna after a game, have sex, then put on a robe and return to the locker room for his post-game media interviews. How far had the team gone in condoning such questionable behavior? ‘I cared,’ West said in his interviews for this book. ‘I did things for those guys. It was ridiculous, some of the things I did for those guys. If the public knew they’d be outraged. It was a pretty crazy period for us.’”
Can you IMAGINE if the internet was Poppin back then like it is NOW??? Woooowwww the level of dissoluteness was EPIC!!! I recall a few year’s back Magic was on a local morning show with Comedian Steve Harvey. 2 old school players of COURSE they started reminiscing about “back in the day”. Magic told Steve that when his team would hit the club, Magic ALWAYS had 1st choice of the females. Once he choose THEN the rest of the guys were able to make their pick for the night!!
Oh I’d love to have a sit down with Magic about those nights! Alas, we all know what the outcome of that was… But it still would be a great story.

Jill *Tracy McGrady and Eddie House made their Knicks debut on Saturday against the Thunder. The game was exciting, it went into overtime. TMac scored 19 in the 1st half. Tim Grover has the secret formula. OMG it’s a true life fairy tale right??? Not exactly, The thunder win, Knicks lose the next 3 games
Well for at least a second we saw a glimpse of what “could” happen with TMac and 2 other stars (as he indicated he’d be happy to take a lower salary to help bring in two superstars this summer) Interesting, we still have 20 plus games to watch this unfold.
*Celts and Knicks played last night, the introduction of Nate Robinson as a Celtic. Eddie House received a warm welcome from the Boston crowd.Celtics win. They’re now #3 in the east.
* Wizard Josh Howard has torn his ACL is out for the season. Josh will be a free agent at the end of this season. It’s tough break coming on the wheels of a trade in a contract year. Ironically, Washington has won it’s last 3 games since last weeks fire sale. Yep it’s just been a little over a week.
* Kevin Durant has scored 25 plus points in the last 29 games. In 23 of those games KD scored at least 30 and for the season he’s scored at least 25 in 33 games. Yeeeaaah that’s Hot FIRE in OKC!! Thunder had won 9 in a row until their last second lost to the Suns. They’re #6 in the west. Are you on the Bandwagon yet? There’s still room & time!
*JMZ Had the exclusive interview with Jason Richardson whose game winner broke the Thunder’s 9 game win streak (Jared Dudley is funny)
* Kobe was back in the line up last night after 18 days of rest, team only lost 1 game while he rested. All 4 wins were by double digits, the lost was by a point. Oh Last night, Kobe: 9 points, 5 rebs, 3 assists in first quarter. Oh he hit the game winner too
* That Man is COLD!!! Mamba breaking hearts again!! 32 points on the night. he’s backkkkkk.
* AI will be away from the Sixers indefinitely while tending to the care of his daughter’s mysterious illness. I don’t think we’ll see AI back on the court period. If that’s true, at least he made his exit on the team that introduced him & bling to the NBA. The Sixers brass shot down rumors they were waiving AI and also indicated that he’s been a model citizen since he’s been back with the team. Good luck to him and his family
* And now something to file under “Dreams Can come true” The Knicks’ Sergio Rodgriuez grew up idolizing several NBA players but his absolute favorite, Tracy McGrady, when he was 16 he went to an Adidas ABCD camp in Berlin. He not only won MVP, he also got a picture with his favorite player that was in attendance… Tracy McGrady. Fast forward a few years and they’re teammates! Hey, I thought that was sweet!!

Jill A Laker game no matter the opponent always brings out the Celebs; This game, Lakers vs. Celtics… Always a little extra spice to that match up. No Kobe and the Lakers mini win streak came to an end. Next up, the Lakers at Memphis and the alleged return of KOBE!

Jill I know you’re probably SO SICK of hearing anything Tiger Woods related that isn’t about golf! I am too but, this whole notion of a press conference disturbed me. I stated back in December that the only person Tiger owes an apology is his WIFE. I still stand by that.
Tiger’s PR team has handled this badly in my personal opinion, they didn’t address this in a timely manner, the leaks etc. But now we’re here so might as well add my thoughts on his “apology”.
People are shocked when I say that I believe Tiger’s cheating days are behind him. Look clearly the man isn’t BUILT for this type of pressure. He’s incredible on the golf course but that’s not what we’re talking about here. Right now Tiger is raw and exposed. Something he’s managed to avoid for the majority of his career. I understand that part of this “apology” was to help appease his sponsors but as Kobe has shown, winning cures everything. Will Tiger be able to return to his previous pristine level, probably not but nobody stays on top forever. As far as his career goes, if he resumes play at the top of his game, this will eventually be a footnote that while not forgotten simply will be overshadowed.
Tiger also went on to say that his wife was not at fault and chastised the media for alluding otherwise. I do appreciate him taking full responsibility for his actions but he didn’t OWE any of us an apology. Just the woman he pledged his fidelity to. ( I don’t believe him when he says his wife didn’t strike him, but my opinion on that in the grand scheme of things is irrelevant)
I think holding a press conference when he already released a statement saying all of this created a spectacle yet again 3 months later. Case in point, one of his side chicks held her OWN press conference (Gloria Allred you’re a bottom feeder for encouraging this foolishness) to say how she feels Tiger owes her a public apology ::Blank stare:: YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS. But she was, we all know the main motivation for these women coming forward to tell their story is monetary. But in a odd way I feel that the way this has been handled by Tiger’s camp has allowed them more leverage because they were allowed to speak 1st and were given the space to shape or create the circumstances of their “relationship” with Tiger. Obviously they were destined to come out but would it have had the same sting if Tiger’s statement release back in late November had addressed the same points he made today and then shut down? My gut says no.
If you somehow managed to miss the Spectacle read it here Tiger’s Apology transcript

Jill If you missed last night’s double header on TNT, my condolences.
- The first game was the Nuggets vs Cavs. LeBron & Carmelo guarded each other the entire game. Shoot out! The game went into overtime as Bron & Melo went basket for basket. Melo however got the last points as Nuggets win 118 to 1116. Melo had 40 on the night and King James, a nice triple double 43 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists. Wonder who’ll get MVP this year!
You know it was a “different” sort of game when Ray Allen is Posterizing Shannon Brown
But Ron Artest & LOK (that’s Lamar Odom-Kardashian) redeemed the Laker pride
* Still wasn’t enough as Celtics win by 1 just like we did on their court a few months back. Lakers managed just 2 points in the final 7 minutes after taking an 84-80 lead. Yeah we need an option for DFish. Oh well, see you next year Celts, savor that victory because you won’t be close until next season.
Lastly, Spotted: Khloe repping her man on her nails like Kim did @ The Superbowl. Rhinestone LO just for boo
